Duanes de la Mar
The origins of this fishing district go back to the 17th century. This urban center of Xàbia, known as Puerto, used to be important with the export of the raisin.
The Duanes district began to develop after the crisis of the raisin trade. From there, fishing activity began and continues to this day. The old whitewashed fishermen's houses and narrow streets now form the essence of this urban core.
Sights
Once in the fishing district, we start the tour from the Church of Our Lady of Loreto, in San Pío X Street. The sculptural silhouette of the Parish of the Sea. It can be seen from several points of this urban core.
Church of Our Lady of Loreto
The Church of Our Lady of Loreto is one of the main attractions of the fishing district. The avant-garde architecture of this temple enhances the charm of Duanes de la Mar. Inaugurated in 1967, it has a bold design where the ceiling represents the keel of a ship.
We leave the church towards the sea via the access stairs to the Pebble Beach promenade. From there we can visit the entire Bay of Xàbia, Cap Prim and the Cabo de San Antonio.
If we stay to the right along the same promenade, bordering the beach, we arrive at the exhibition hall of the Cable House.
Cable house
Another building to highlight is the Cable House. It housed the telegraphic station that connected the peninsula to Ibiza by a submarine cable. It is currently an exhibition space. Only the pillars of the 'naja' remain of the original building from 1860.
We verlaten de kerk in de richting van de zee via de toegangstrap naar de promenade van de Kiezelstrand. Vanaf daar kunnen we de hele baai van Xàbia, Cap Prim en de Cabo de San Antonio.
Now from this point, returning along the same path, but on the left we arrive at the fishing port, fish market and yacht club.

The arrival of the boats, the auction and the subsequent sale of fish in the Lonja have become an unmissable attraction for our visitors. In addition to the port, the Nautical Club offers various options for water sports enthusiasts.
Various events and celebrations are held throughout the year, such as the Moros y Cristianos during the month of July. But undoubtedly the most popular and endearing for the residents of Duanes are the festivities at the beginning of September dedicated to their patron, the Virgen del Loreto.
